About Alison

I got my start in internal communications at Shell. I originally joined them as an expert in the tax valuation of oil pipelines and chemical infrastructure. Yeah, the usual career path for a graduate in English from Cambridge University.

Actually, having had a few years of experience as an employee gave me a real advantage. It means that I’ve been on the receiving end of poorly thought out and inappropriately targeted communications – and I won’t do that to anyone else. I believe both audiences and businesses are best served by thoughtful, appropriate communications that are easy to understand.

I also discovered at Shell, and later when I worked alongside the Chief Technology Officer at Kaiser Permanente, that I love to translate really complex technical and organizational material into clear and usable content.

I love to talk with nerds, geeks, experts and all around smart people

I love to talk with nerds, geeks, experts and all around smart people and then help them to share their knowledge with the rest of the world in a meaningful way. Am I allowed to say it’s fun? Of course I am, I take the work seriously but that doesn’t mean I have to be solemn about it.

I have learned to spell and to embrace the baseball metaphor with near native enthusiasm.

Oh, and just a hint. When you talk to me on the phone you’ll notice I’m not from around here. I’m an expat Brit, with the accent to prove it but I promise that you won’t notice it when I write – most of my clients are Americans and so I have learned to spell and to embrace the baseball metaphor with near native enthusiasm.
